Burlap and Drop Cloth and Ticking... Oh my!!

I promised you more trees and guess what?  This baby requires no sewing!  I have been thinking that my ruffle tree was looking a bit lonely on the bar all by herself so...

Don't they make a cute couple?  I think so!

Here's how I made my rosette Christmas Tree!

I started with a grapevine tree I purchased at Hobby Lobby for $3.50.  I wanted the vine to show a bit under the rosettes which is why I went with this rather than foam.

For this tree I used 3 different fabrics.  I used the same burlap and drop cloth canvas I used on my ruffle tree and I also used a ticking fabric I found at Joann's.

I cut strips of each fabric about 1 1/2 inch thick and about 14" long.  Then I used my rolled rosette method I shared here to make my flowers!

I would make about 8-12 at a time and then cut them out.

Once I cut them out I glued them to the tree.  I had no pattern in mind... Just used the old eyeball method.

More progress...

I did this all the way to the top.  I won't lie... This wasn't the fastest project I have ever done.  It did take the better part of an afternoon and evening to get these flowers all rolled.  But... I am so pleased with the results!

Here was the top when I finished the flowers.

You can leave it like this or if you like twine as much as I do you can finish off the top with it.  I used twine to wrap the top and add a couple jingle bells.

I did like the look of my other trees on the base so I filled the inside of this tree with styrofoam and attached a base just like I did on the ruffle trees.

That's it!  If you own a hot glue gun, you can make this tree!  Once you finish your tree you will be a rolled rosette champion!  Here's a few more pictures of mine...

This is at HOOT!!

Did I mention how much I am LOVING my Silhouette machine?  I wanted to show you guys yet another trick this machine will do for you.  Here's my little booger sporting my latest craft :)

How cute is that onesie??  I am in love.  I used my Silhouette Machine to bling up my baby!

This was super simple.  I started with picking my design from their HUGE library.  I love that I can choose just 1 design for $.99 rather than paying over $50 for a cartridge that contains many I will never use!  For me, this saves on both storage and cash... Whooop!

My Silhouette cut the design on the blue rhinestone template material.  I then peeled the blue part off like a sticker and attached it to the backing board.  Here it is below.

Then you use the small brush to line your rhinestones into the holes.

Once you have all your rhinestones on, you cover the design with a piece of transfer tape.  This just allows you to pick up the design and get it to your fabric.

Just peel it up and attach it to your fabric.

Then, I covered my design with a small piece of fabric and ironed it on cotton setting for about a minute.

After it cooled a bit I peeled back the transfer tape and I was done... Woohoo!

Bird Ornaments!

I have recently fallen in LOVE with a new spray paint from our friends over at Rust-Oleum!  I stumbled upon these super cute bird (maybe it's a dove) ornaments and knew just how to revamp them!

Aren't those sooo cute!!  You want to know what makes them even cuter??  They were in the dollar section at Michael's!  Whoop!!  I loved them but knew the red was a bit off for my silver and blue tree.  So... Here was my solution.

It is Rust-Oleum Textured Metallic Spray Paint in Silver!

I love, love the finish that it gives.  It makes your surface look almost glittered without the mess!  I sprayed both side of my birdies and after a bit of drying they were ready to go.  I just added a piece of twiner and hung them up.  I love them!

How fun are those??  You can find them at Michael's!  I found them right by the checkout with all the $1 stuff they stock at the front... My Michael's had LOTS.   After you get your birds go get this paint.  You will love it!

Burlap Trees... Take 2!

Thanks so much for all your sweet comments on the ruffled trees in my last post!  I owe Erin for that awesome idea and I wanted to give you guys one more spin on these.  I decorate my house for Christmas in whites and blues... At least this year.  I am also a sucker for almost anything burlap and canvas which brought me to this take on the Ruffle Tree...

How cute, huh??

I only did a few things different...

Instead of ribbon I cut strips of burlap and drop cloth to ruffle up.

One reader asked if I did a continuous strip of the tree or if I glued it in layers.  Each tree is different.  The green one in my last post is one continuous strip going up the tree.  This tree is separate pieces at each layer.  This is what under the ruffles looks like...

I kept the edges nice and messy because I like them that way.  The bottom is the same.  I just glued on one of those great wooden spindles.  You can also use a candlestick!

And I did the twine around the top with a few jingle bells just like before...

That's it! All done...

For those of you that prefer a more muted Christmas like myself, this is your tree :-)

Also, I had a few readers ask about the ruffler foot.  I have a Brother NX-600 sewing machine.  I have this ruffler foot here except mine is silver.

My neighbor down the street just bought a ruffler for her White machine and found the cheapest on Ebay.  If you find one on Ebay (just search Ruffler foot) you can ask the seller if it fits your model.  If you have a local sewing store they may carry them there as well.  They all fit just a bit different so make sure that it fits your model.  Hope this helps!
