Shirt for her Birthday... And The Sale!

Hey guys!!  We celebrated my daughter's birthday today.  When I saw the fabric interfacing out from Silhouette I thought this would be the perfect time to try this stuff out!  I wanted to make her a shirt to wear to her birthday party.   I am a sucker for fabric.  I walked into JoAnn's to get only fabric for the shirt and walked out with enough to make a matching skirt... Ahhh.  Addicting.

Let me show you how cool this stuff is. Here is her shirt...

All you have to do is iron your transfer material onto your fabric.  This takes just a few seconds.

You stick your fabric on your cutting mat and run it through the machine.  The settings come on the instructions.  Super easy!

Once you are done you start pulling away the excess fabric.

And your design peels right off!  Whoop!

Your last step is to iron it on.  I used the sewable transfer with my design since it would be on clothing.  I wanted it to look a bit messy and rough as it washes so I added a fun zigzag stitch around the whole design to seal the deal.  The other option is clean cut which does not require any sewing but you do have to hand stitch it if you are wanting to machine wash it.  I think it would be great for pillows and home decor projects!! I have a few in my head at the moment :-)

I finished it up and got a few more pictures of her before the fam came over.

And the skirt :-)

Fun, Fun. Hope you like it!!

Kitchen Sign... All Finished!

What up??

Hope you guys are having a great weekend!!  This is birthday weekend for one of my little ladies so things are a bit crazy around here.  Not too crazy to sneak in this post though:-)

I showed you guys the beginning of my kitchen sign in my last post.  Here is how I finished it up...

After distressing all my letters my sign looked a bit like this.

I then took an 80 grit sanding block to all my edges like this.

Once I finished that, I added a line of dark walnut stain around the raw edges and wiped off my excess with an old cloth.  It's a perfect touch to make it look just a bit older.

My final step was adding a sawtooth hanger to the back of the board and putting it on the wall.

What do you think??

Hope you like it!  It was a great piece to break up that big blank space I think.  We will start this month's Shanty Silhouette sale on the 21st.  I will be back before then to show you a great new product.  Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Have a great weekend!!

Shanty Stenciled Sign

Hey guys!

Hope you all had a great weekend.  I spent mine with the fam and about 74839274 loads of laundry. Ashley and I have joked before about how we should post our folded laundry piles as our latest DIY projects.  You girls would be so impressed :-))

My latest space to tackle has been this blank space between my kitchen and living room.

It's a very long, blank space that catches my eye a lot.  I thought it could use a little something.  I decided to make a sign for it.

Because I am no free hand artist I started by purchasing a roll of Contact Paper.

I made my stencils using my Silhouette.  For those of you that have a Silhouette, this is my new favorite material for stencils!  I cut it on the same settings at vinyl and it was a perfect cut!

For the sign itself I decided to use a 1x10' board from Lowe's.  I gave it a couple of coats of Rust-Oleum Heirloom White and let it dry.  I picked a board with lots of knots and imperfections because I wanted it to look good and shanty.

After cutting my letters, I used the letter itself to space it on the sign like this.

Cute font??  I used a free font called Clarendon BT.  Love it!  And without having to use a cartridge I saved lots of time and money!

Once I had my letter placed I put the outline piece around it.

Then, I peeled the letter off!

I used my favorite acrylic paint...

...And used a stencil brush to paint on my letter.

Drying...

Here it is dry just before I shantied it up a bit.

I wanted my new sign to look old (the hubby still doesn't understand this concept) so I used a 3M 220 grit sanding block to lightly sand over the letters.  I LOVE the result.

My final step is to distress my edges a bit and get this baby on the wall.  I will show you guys that in my next post!  Thanks for stopping by!  I'm back to laundry ;-)

Walmart?? Really??

Hey friends!

With 4 kids I've got to say that my favorite place to find clothes is Walmart and Target.  One of my favorite new things to do is shanty them up a bit using my Silhouette.

For this project I used Silhouette's Flocked Heat Transfer

Love it!

I found this cute shirt with an even cuter price tag at Walmart... $3.50... Oh yah baby!

I used my machine to cut out a wienie dog... So cute.

Once you have cut it, you just peel the extra transfer material off the plastic sheet.

And you are left with your design! So easy!!

You just put the design down on your shirt and iron!

What I love about the flocked material is the super soft texture!! I now know from experience that it washes well which is a must for me.

I loved the way it turned out and thought the perfect way to finish it off was with a little flower.  I used some fabric glue to stick it down and I was done!

See the fun texture???

Yep... I have a happy customer!

Hope you like it as much as she does...

Fun Wall Art & The Sale!

Happy Tuesday guys!!

I want to share a fun wall art project with you guys!  I made these for the older girls' room but I think I may be making some more for mine as well... I love them.

I have 2 blank spaces next to their window that were begging for some love.  I found the branches and birds and that became my inspiration for this project.

I started with some scrap 1x12 I had from some of my latest projects.  These were about 24" long.

I'm kind of into stain at the moment so that's just what I did... Dark Mahogany.

While those were drying I started working on the cute stuff.

I used my Silhouette to cut shapes out.  I found the birds and branches on the Silhouette software and cut it out using the machine.  There is nothing better than shopping from the comfort of my computer chair.

I used Silhouette's Premium Vinyl for these birdies and branches.

Once the machine cut it, I peeled the extras off first.

Then, I used the transfer paper to attach it to my wood.  This is my first time to use the transfer paper and I LOVE it.  I usually try the old peel and stick method but I knew that wouldn't work with all the details.

You just peel the transfer paper off.... So easy!
I had originally planned on being done at this point but I thought it needed a little extra something.  I remembered some cream flowers I had from making the baby some headbands.

Pulled out the glue gun...

And started attaching.

I had to cover up my holes so I used some extra pearly buttons and hot glued them too.

I found these great hooks in the garden section at Hobby Lobby for 1/2 off... Whoop!

I drilled a couple holes in each one, added some twine, and hung them up.... Well, actually I only got one up.

The babies were not enjoying this project as much as I was.  I did manage to get one up to show you though :-)

Hope you like it!
