Quilt Clip DIY and a Video

Hi friends!  So, the nursery is still a work in progress.  I'm convinced that by the time I have it where I want it Tenley will be ready for a new theme:)  That doesn't take the fun out of the decorating though!

I've been wanting to hang her quilt above her bed but was stuck on how I would hang it because this bedding line does not have matching quilt clips.

I remembered these great clips at Hobby Lobby!

I purchased two medium sized clips.  You can find them in the unfinished wood section and make sure you either use a coupon or wait until wood is on sale.  Otherwise, they are pretty pricey!

I painted them a red that I had mixed at Home Depot to coordinate with the bedding.  I also distressed the edges a bit with my 3M sanding block.

I purchased these sawtooth hangers at Wal-Mart for about $1.00.

I hammered one sawtooth hanger to the back of each clip.

Then I just had to hang them and clamp the quilt down!

Whitney and I have had a lot of requests to share our nurseries with you all.  To be honest, my nursery is just now finally ready to share!  Like I said, it is a work in progress but I'm excited with the way it is turning out so, the best way for me to share it with you all is a video. 

Most of the items in the nursery were either free or bought at a second hand store.  The bed, bedding and chandelier are the only pieces that I purchased brand new!  I love that every piece in her nursery has a story and that the stories will continue from here:)  I hope you enjoyed my little video peek!

Pillars

Hey guys:)  I have seen these done by so many and I really needed new pillars for my fireplace.  I decided to do my own spin on them and I love how they turned out!

I started with a 4x4 that I purchased at Home Depot.  I cut them down to three different sizes.  The magic numbers for me were 25", 20" and 15".

I also had some extra MDF scrap boards in my garage so I cut these down for bases.  I cut the square pieces down to 3 pieces at 6.5"x6.5" and 6 at 5.5" x 5.5".

Next, I used Gorilla Glue Wood Glue to stack a small square on top of a large square.

I repeated this two more times to construct the pillar bases.

I spray painted all of the pieces with Rust-Oleum Heirloom White.

John and I were married in 2002 so I thought it would be cute to incorporate that into the pillars.  I found these super cheap numbers at Home Depot.  They were silver but I painted them with Rust-Oleum Metallic Accents Metallic Classic Bronze.

This stuff is cool!

After everything was painted I used Gorilla Glue Wood Glue to build the pillars.

To finish them off I used my 3M sanding block to distress all of the edges, bases and 4x4 pieces.

I then followed up with Minwax Dark Walnut stain to accent the distressed edges.

When I wiped away the stain I rubbed it into the rest of the pillar to give a glazed effect.

These were so cheap!  I payed $10 for the 4x4 which made three pillars.  That's under $3.50 per pillar!!!

Master Bath Window

So, just warning you... This is another curtain post.

I am a bit of a "phasey" person and my phase at the moment is window coverings.

I have a favorite window in my house back in my bathroom.  It's a big 4' window that opens to my backyard.  When we built the house I loved the idea of having a window that big in my bathroom.  I LOVE natural light and what better place for it.  My original plans for this window were shutters... Until I had them quoted :-/.  They were more expensive than the windows. No, thanks!

I ended up making a roman shade for it that has been up since we moved in.  It was a temporary 2 year fix.

I recently ran across some cheapo wood brackets at Lowe's and my head started spinning!

I love the way my ruffled curtains turned out in the laundry room and knew something similar would be great in here too.

Here is how they turned out...

Let me show you how inexpensive these were to make!

I found these brackets for around $2 at Lowe's.

I also used the a set of finials from Lowe's for around $3.  These are the same ones we use on the apothecaries and photo displays.

I also used a piece of wood closet pole.  You can by this by the foot for around $1 a foot.  You can also use dowel rods if your window is under 4'.

I stained all of those pieces with a dark mahogany stain.  While they were drying I started on my curtains.  For this window I used this drop cloth.

It was around $12.  I cut the bottom foot or so off and used it for my ruffles.  I used the same method I used on my laundry curtains for these.  You can find those directions HERE.

Once everything was dry, I used anchors and drywall screws to attach the brackets to my wall.  I hung the panels up and the screwed the finials into both ends.

Here it is all finished...

See the big scrolly thing there on the left?? Well... That's my next revamp.  I have big plans for that wall right there.  It just took some ruffles to get me inspired... Whoop!!
